Science Questions: Our Answers and a strong paragraph.

Science Questions and our answers:








a-   What is a thorn? What does it do? (p.99)
A thorn is a protective stem in a plant and thorns mainly protect the plant.
b-   What is the difference between vascular plants and other plants? (p.99)  Vascular plants have xylem and phloem to carry materials; however, other plants do not.
c-   What might happen if a tree’s bark were stripped away? (p.99). With no barks, the tree new phloem would be exposed and could be destroyed. The tree would not produce more phloem quickly and could die.
d-   What are taproots? How does it grow? (p.100). Taproots are roots that grows straight down into the soil.
e-   What is a fibrous root system? Explain. (p.101). Fibrous root system is a set of roots that grow out in all directions.
f-      How does a longer root system help a plant grow? (p.101) Longer roots help plants absorb more water, store more food or nutrients, and anchor the plant into the ground.
g-   What is the name for the small-modified leaves that cover the buds? (pp.102-103)
The small-modified leaves in plants are called sepals.
h-   What is the difference between pistol and stamen? (pp.102-103). A pistol is the female part of the flower and contain egg cells. Stamen is the male part of the flower and produces pollen.
i-      To what age must individual plants exist if their species is to survive? (pp.102-103).
All plants must live long enough so they can grow, reproduce, and die.
