First – Research and
make an outline about Halloween.
Second – Organize –
write a letter from the outline. You will send this letter to an imaginary
friend from a faraway place where Halloween is no popular and people do not even
know about this celebration.
Then, write a letter (in pen – do not print anything but pictures, if
you do not want to draw them yourself).
We all
need to share this letter in class. Read it aloud to any adult at home. Train
your reading before sharing the letter with others in our Monday classes.
Here
are some points to include into your letter (to
your imaginary friend) about Halloween:
Write a few
sentences about the origins of Halloween;
Tell about the
tradition of carving pumpkins. Draw or print out some pictures (attach them
to the letter).
Tell how people
celebrate Halloween. Give details on how people decorate their houses and yards,
how they choose costumes.
Tell how kids do
trick-or-treating, and how Halloween was in the past and how parties are
organized nowadays.
Imagine that you
have a friend who lives in a country where Halloween is not popular, your
friend has never heard of Halloween, and you have to write him/her a letter about
this holiday and its history.

A Description
In order to do your homework 32, you need your
textbook (Anthology), read and follow some important steps. See your textbook
(pp. 52 - 53).
First, read the Student Writing Model, “By the Sea”.
Observe the
characteristics of a good description:
beginning, imagery, similes, details and
ending. Understand those five elements
in a description in order to make a description of your own.
Second, think of a place (your school, neighborhood or any
place you have been before, a place that you remember well). Have or take a
picture of the place (or places) and attach it to your homework assignment
(take a picture of the place, print and attach it).
Third, on a piece of paper, outline information about it.
(Outline = sketch out, make a draft, give an idea of
it, summarize it in a few steps). Sketch out the whole description
before you write the final draft/version.
Finally, on another piece of paper, write a clear
description of the place. However, consider the following: write five short paragraphs. Do your work as the following:
(Paragraph 1) beginning. (Paragraph 2) imagery. (Paragraph 3) similes.
(Paragraph 4) details. (Paragraph 5) ending.

The king of the Fruits
The apple fruit is considered the
king of fruits. The apple is a fleshy fruit from the apple tree. It
is in the species Malus domestica in the rose family Rosaceae. The apple is one
of the most grown tree fruits. It is grown in orchards. Its
tree is thought to have originated in nutrient-rich mountain ranges of
Kazakhstan. Today, it is
being cultivated in many parts of the world including the US as an important
commercial crop.
Red apples
contain an antioxidant called quercetin. Recent studies have
found that quercetin can help boost and fortify your immune system, especially
when you're stressed out.
An
extensive body of research has linked high soluble fiber intake with a slower
buildup of cholesterol-rich plaque in your arteries. The phenolic compound
found in apple skins also prevents the cholesterol that gets into your system
from solidifying on your artery walls. When plaque builds inside your
arteries, it reduces blood flow to your heart, leading to coronary artery
disease.
Apples are very
good for one's health. An English saying is:
"An apple a day keeps the doctor away." Actually, an apple is good
for one's digestion, and also has important vitamins and minerals. Apples also
help to clean one's teeth after a meal. An apple won’t replace your toothbrush,
but biting and chewing an apple stimulates the production of saliva in your
mouth, reducing tooth decay by lowering the levels of bacteria. No other fruit
has so many good qualities. Therefore, it is not surprising that the apple is
regarded as the "King" of all fruits.
Apple is an
amazing fruit; its fiber provides cardiovascular benefits, and the interaction
of fiber with other nutrients in this wonderful fruit give our body the best
health benefits. The skin of the apple is rich in nutrients.
When we make an apple pie, even if the recipe we have chosen requires peeled
apples, consider leaving the skins on to receive the unique benefits found in the
whole apple. It is a good idea to prevent browning when slicing apples for a
recipe. In order to avoid this to happen, simply put the slices
in a bowl of cold water to which a spoonful of lemon.
In summary, this
king apple came to America. When America was first discovered, the apple
was already an important fruit in European lands. The British and the Dutch
brought the apple to "New England" and to "New Amsterdam"
(New York); the French brought the apple to Canada. From the Atlantic States the
apple quickly spread to all of America. Apple is definitely a king; it is in
the market all over the world. When you feel hungry; have some apple! Better health
could be as easy as reaching for the fruit bowl for some apples next time you
need a snack.
