Volume: basic concepts
What is volume?
Volume is the measurement of the amount of space that something (a liquid, solid or gas) takes up in a container.
How can you calculate volume?
To find the volume of any cube you need to know the length, width and height. To find the volume, you multiply the length by the width by the height.
How do you work out the volume of a square?
In order to find the volume of a cube, multiply side times side times side. Since each side of a square is the same, it can simply be the length of one side cubed. If a square has one side of 4 inches, the volume would be 4 inches times 4 inches times 4 inches, equals 64 cubic inches (or 64 in3).
How do you figure out the volume of a rectangle?
Multiply the length, the width, and the height. You can multiply them in any order to get the same different result. The formula for finding the volume of a rectangular prism, for example, is the following:
Volume = Length X Height X Width (or V = L X H X W).
Volume of triangular prism
How do you get the base of a triangular prism?
The formula to calculate the volume of a triangular prism is equal to B times H, or Base times Height. To find the base, multiply the length by the width and divide that by 2. Take the bases area and multiply by the height.
Here is a Challenge
How do you find the volume of a triangular pyramid? Watch this video and have the taste of it:
